Good morning loves! Yesterday happened one of the most anticipated evenings in the fashion world: The MET Gala!
The Gala is hosted by Anna Wintour, Vogue’s chef editor and Condé Nast’s creative director. Each year, the museum exhibits an amazing fashion collection, and the chosen theme dictates the guest’s dress code.
This year’s theme was “Camp: Notes on Fashion”, a celebration of the Camp aesthetics in fashion. The term “camp”, refers to an exaggerated, extravagant aesthetics, which escapes the natural and goes toward theatricality. It’s the embodiment of a concept or idea, through performative fashion.
So of course, with such a theme, the rep carpet (pink, in this case), was a parade of conceptual usual fashion. No basic gowns here!
We saw many exaggerated proportions, sparkles, colors, extravagant beauty and performances. Many gowns by Moschino, brand with a notorious camp aesthetic, and by Gucci, with is becoming gradually more theatrical under the direction of Alessandro Michele.
Let’s see the outfits? There are many!
Firstly, the night’s greatest star: Lady Gaga! Being one of the night’s hostess, the artist felt at home with the camp theme, and full theatrical! Brandon Maxwell designed not one, but 4 outfits for her, who stripped down on the pink carpet. I’m thrilled!
Billy Porter also rocked a performance, with a look inspired by Diana Ross. A wonderful moment for all fashion lovers and queer art enthusiasts.
Among the hits of this year’s Gala, we saw a lot of pink and gold. Many embroidery and feathery details.
Falando sobre cores, podemos observar uma tendência. As estrelas optaram ou por cores muito saturadas e extravagantes, como o amarelo e o verde limão. Ou por tons pastel, criando um balanço suave com as proporções exageradas.
The beauty looks were great to behold! The Hadid sisters and the Kardashian-Jenner sisters were stunning! I’m in love with the Versace gowns created for Kylie and Kendall. And take a look at the crazy work made in latex for Kim Kardashian’s Mugler gown? It was the first look designed by Manfred Thierry Mugler himself in 20 years! A work of art!
Other necessary mentions! The huge dress worn by Cardi B, you can’t be more camp than that. And Zandaya’s Cinderela dress, which transformed in front of the audience.
And to wrap everything beautifully, the surrealist outfits of Ezra Miller and Janelle Monae. Two fashion icons!
This Gala is always magical to watch!
Which are you favorites?
Bisou, bisou.
